Hi everyone,
My day always gets a joy injection when I sit down to write to you all, so thank you for being here. There’s more than 4,000 of you now (amazing, considering how little effort I put into growing this publication).
Just dropping you a quick email with two things you might want to know:
New feature: Yesterday I learned about a new feature on Substack Notes. It’s a superb way to tune your feed. More on that below.
Surprise gift: I’ve got a surprise gift for the first 50 people who pre-order or buy my new book How to Make Money With Substack in the next 48 hours. If you’ve already pre-ordered it, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Details below.
New feature: Related Notes
The new feature on Substack Notes is called ‘Related Notes’ and it’s a tool that’s been introduced to help you find new people to follow.
(To be honest, I don’t know exactly how new it is, since I don’t spend a lot of time on Notes, but I have it on good authority that it’s pretty new.)
Related Notes shows you a list of notes on similar topics when you click on a note in your feed. You can then browse and find new creators and new publications on that topic.
If you’re looking for new publications to read and want to make your Notes feed more enjoyable, you’ll love Related Notes. It is so much better than trying to navigate the Substack directory, with its clunky categories and random recommendations.
To find Related Notes, follow these steps:
Go to Notes by clicking your profile picture at the top left of your computer screen, followed by ‘Home’. Or open the Substack app on your smartphone. The Notes feed is on the homepage of the app.
Find a note you like the look of and click it. Clicking the note shows replies.
Scroll past the replies to find the heading ‘Related Notes’. Under the heading, you will see a selection of notes from creators who move in the same circles as the writer of the first note.
If you want to get back to your main feed, find the back arrow (<) next to the word Notes at the top left of your computer screen, or the < at the top left of the app screen.
Use Related Notes to find new people to follow and new publications to subscribe to.
