The Substack Story
Zero to 1.5 m in 5 years
The creation of Substack, the software platform for writers, is quite a story.
If you’re not already familiar with how Substack went from zero to 1.5 million paying subscribers in five years, then the latest post from Substack’s co-founder Hamish McKenzie will inspire you.
It’s the story of two guys who set out to help a popular newsletter writer who wanted to monetise his newsletter. They built a platform to handle all the admin, tech and payments so he could collect subscription fees easily, leaving him to focus on his writing.
Spoiler alert: they succeeded.
“By the end of the day that [the writer] published his first-ever Substack post, he had brought in more than a hundred thousand dollars.”
