So close to my own experience Karen. And I was on the same Substack Grow program which I also loved. It took me a lot longer to focus on revenue generation which wasnβt my priority. But I started a paid newsletter last year on Tuesdays focusing on all things longevity / business / demographics and how organizations are adapting. But kept my free Sunday updates on the individual adaptations to longevity and longer careers. Itβs proven similarly successful and is very satisfying. Itβs nice to leverage years of knowledge, learning and expertise for leaders ready to be first movers on this megatrend. Thanks for inspiring me and mirroring my gratitude for substack.
Love the insight into publications. This makes me think about how I am building mine and how to set expectations for myself and the interactions I have on here. Thank you!
Karen, great post. I paid you twice to consult with me on my Substack, and I learned a huge amount! And your emails are incredibly helpful! I am encouraged that you mentioned anyone making over $2K per year is in rarified company, because Iβve been posting for two years now and am at $2.5K per year. And I am not offering anyone anything - except art. Unless you made a mistake and meant $20K per year??? Anyway, great post as always.
Congratulations, Lorne on making $2.5K per year. Your art is beautiful! And no, $2K wasnβt a typo. More than $2K from direct subscriptions is definitely something to celebrate.
Karen, thank you for these wonderful tips. I love the honestyβlearn from mistakes and what didn't work. I have heard elsewhere that notes are super important. I can't bring myself to go that way. I am here to create and become a better writer. I'm happy with slow growth, all that I am learning, including keeping promises. Glad to hear what did not work for you. Excellent advice. Congratulations on your success.

Congrats on your paid subscriber acquisition strategies! You put in the work, and now you are rewarded. Love watching your growth. π
You too, Paul!
Thank you for the honesty and expertise! Fascinating and helpful.

Thanks, Prajna, and congratulations to you for being clear about what youβre here for. Yay for slow growth!
Thanks for the tips. I'm still a beginner and finding it hard to grow. Following the example set by others is a big help!
