Nope. Not many of my subscribers get involved in Chat. I've given up. It's probs because I personally don't enjoy sm, so I'm probably not very engaging there. Some people are really good at it, some are not (like me! 😂)
I love all the "Have you considered?" messages I get from Jasmine as a Substack Bestseller! They are often really good ideas! I got a completely different one this morning about starting a paid chat writing circle for our readers and listeners and just said sure and did it! I <3 Substack.
I would love to start a free chat on my creativity journal for readers to share what sort of creative projects they are working on - like a weekly creativity check-in. I'd love ideas / advice about this from anyone who has tried it or something similar. Thank you!
The bulk of my subscribers have chosen to receive my newsletters via email (I know, I know) and shunned the app entirely. Curious as to whether anyone else has a heavy email v. app demographic and if so, had any success in chat engagement —paid or not.
Good for you pushing back. I've dabbled with chat, but I don't think my readers prefer it to a discussion thread. The only thing I've used the feature for regularly is communicating with others individually (a DM basically). It's handy for that!
I've got a weekly discussion thread going, and that (and now Notes) has largely taken the place of Chat. Maybe I'm missing out, but it just seems redundant to me.
I saw one chat a while ago, and I was really tempted to. But then I saw that there were barely any subscribers engaging. That put me off. I only use chat for my Founding Members. Everyone else emails me and asks questions that way. But I do have something planned next month for a free chat. Who knows, it might help people see the value. I got this cooking email too 😅. I can’t even cook 😂.

Karen, Thanks for the tip. It generated some interesting ideas. D
