Thank you for this, I didnt know that function was possible for Notes. I'm not really a social media person, so I've never really used Notes much. A few days ago I posted a comment on someone else's Note, and weirdly, its had nearly a thousand likes! I've been thinking for a while that I probably should be using Notes regularly as I have a book coming out in March, and I feel I should be promoting it better here. I just need to be disciplined about it. But it does feel like shouting into the void at times... I wouldn't mind the crickets if they read books! 🤣 Thank you for sharing this information. 💕

I was today years old when I discovered the drop down arrow in a menu is called a 'chevron'. 😆

Beyond that - this post is very useful. Thank you, Karen.

Thanks so much for sharing Karen, this is so useful 💖 I started paying attention to the Notes stats features only recently when one of my Notes had lot of engagement:

Thanks for putting together this solid and experience-backed article, Karen!

This relatively new Substack growth dashboard is a step in the right direction and helps writers identify well-performing Notes. It is a bit clunky because the date filter only goes back 90 days, and you cannot filter by other criteria. This is why I built the tools you mentioned, and thank you for helping test my stuff.

I am currently working on a new tool called StackContacts that enables much richer analytics and the ability to trace readers' journeys from discovery to paid subscribers, using Claude AI to query the data.

It won't give you "3,987 subscribers in 30 days," but it has proven to provide reasonably good analysis and insights on why certain posts or notes flop, while others perform really well. I currently have 12 volunteers beta testing it and helping me fix bugs and improve the user experience.

Oh if it won't give me 3,987 subscribers in 30 days I'm not interested, Finn! Am Joking. StackContacts sounds like a data nerd's wet dream.
