Thank you for this great post. I appreciate all of the helpful advice. I'm in overwhelm right now, but I know I need to pay more attention to my Substack account. You gave me a great starting place.
This was an enlightening and inspirational article! It was exactly the wake-up I needed to admit my page had no plan or organization.
Now I've built a similar framework for links, pages and post organization. Honestly, I think it will be a lot more reader-friendly now and easier to find information.
So thanks, because without your post, I would never have come to the realization that I did!
Hey Karen 👋, Michael is definitely doing something right. Based on my story he told me via Twitter that not all of his subscribers are really paying him. He gave away some subscriptions for free. Doesn't change the fact that he earns more than 20,000 bucks per year with his newsletter. Love your analysis. Are you also on Medium? I'd love to promote your story. Otherwise I'll cross-post this via Substack. Super cool that my latest issue inspired you! ❤️
Can we link directly to our publication's home page? If so, then making that page look really impressive could help more people subscribe as well as gain some of the other benefits you mentioned.
At the moment, I'm not sure how many people actually see my publication's home page.
Hi Rodney, you can't link directly to your publication's home page without the Welcome 'wall' (with "No Thanks"/other message) appearing for new readers.
My work-around is to share the link to my /About page instead of my home page link.
People who click the About page link don't see the welcome 'wall', so they can instantly see exactly what you and your publication is all about without getting the subscribe button right in their face.
I like that idea. I was thinking of creating a post designed to get people to subscribe and including the subscribe link at the bottom. That way Substack will show me how many people who visited that page signed up - thus showing the conversion rate of that page.
Does Substack show how many visitors to the About page become subscribers too?
Hi Rodney 👋 great question. I recommend visiting Michael's homepage to see what is possible. As Karen shows I was also surprised how a Substack newsletter can look and feel and how many tabs you can have where people can get more information. Is your newsletter all about creating online courses? I created several too and also hosted a BootCamp last year. Great niche! Are you on Medium? Have a nice weekend!
Kristina, thanks for your reply. I went to Michael's site and I saw the usual subscribe page instead of the home page. I could see the home page if I clicked "No thanks." But I was hoping for a method of showing the home page first to really impress a potential new subscriber.
What I just discovered is instead of "No thanks" we can change the words. I changed mine to "Read before subscribing" that way potential subscribers are likely to click that to read to help them decide if they'll subscribe or not.
And to answer your question, my publication is about creating online courses as well as marketing them. I am on medium here: https://medium.com/course-builders-corner
Hey👋 great tweak! Connected with you on Medium. If you want to grow there I'm a great companion 😊 see and read you here and on Medium. Have a sunny day!
Thanks, Kristina. I've been following you for a while on Medium. I just went to your profile and noticed that you have a graphic showing the publications you've been featured in next to your photo. How did you do that?

Well done, Carolyn, the tabs across the top of your page look great.

No you can't see how well your About page converts, you don't get stats from historical posts, only recent posts.
Ah, I wasn't aware of that. That's too bad.
That's a much better idea, especially for inclusion in a sig block!

With Canva. Do you need a tutorial how to do it?
It seems the features have changed since 2020. I can see now that you can put graphics there. That's very cool.
This is such an informative post, thank you for breaking it all down ☺️
Hi Mitchell👋 I also think AI Supremacy could become the go to source. A lot to learn from Michael. Why did you moved away from website style delivery?
