It's probably not worth it for the progammic ads, but they have a partner network that pays $100-$250 per insertion, which can ad more revenue than that. I think you would probably need another offering. We tried a daily last year that was close to profitable on Kit, and I think probably would have been on Beehiiv, but there'snot very many like newsletters on Beehiiv. They were mostly crypto and finance, along with Ai. If I had one of those, I would for sure do it.

I find that whether or not I pay for a subscription is more of an intuitive decision than a logical one. Reasons I've paid for a subscription: I genuinely want to support the author because I support the cause they represent or I like their way of talking about the topic (reason I subscribed to you Karen). Reason it's so important to find and use your voice in your Substack. There are gobs of people out there talking about monetizing Substack. I happen to like your more laid back, humane perspective.

It's not usually about the money. It's about whether or not I intuit value and it's usually a very quick decision. I often receive offers to get a discounted or free trial and I can't think of one that I've clicked on. I just don't see the value. And do I want yet more stuff I don't read in my inbox?

I suspect there are absolutely people for whom this approach is appealing. And clearly there are people who like getting the discount. Wonder how many of these readers stick around, comment, and promote the publication. Seems devoted fans are more likely from slow growth.

Still trying to get enough paid subscribers to worry about anything like this now. We're talking about newsletters with at least 40K free and a 5% paid to come up with 10 thousand a month. That's gonna be a while for me.

I don’t think I would try it for a few of reasons. One I like the community here and believe you grow by engaging in other writers’ work - supporting others which in turn helps you. Secondly, people are leaving Facebook and Instagram in droves to avoid ads and sponsored content. I think you would lose subscribers for that reason. And lastly, I don’t think people would want to download another app to read your content. That would be I’m out for me. I am still new here and exploring and loving the discovery.

Far too complex. What I want is for Substack to offer a one dollar tier. That’s the cost of a paperback. Most people who read Substack want quite a few. So it’s like a magazine with your 20 fa authors. That’s worth $20 a month like one magazine a week. If I can only subscribe to one or two. It just feels prohibitive. I can’t afford more than that and I guess my readers can’t either. So one dollar tier please Substack.

Totally. If I were to subscribe to the substacks I most value, that makes it unsustainable and/or I would need to rotate subscriptions.

And I would love to be able to charge $1 per month for my own newsletters while I'm not comfortable charging what's not sustainable for myself.

Here's another concern with this if I understand correctly what you're saying. I believe Google dings you for having same content in different places. Maybe it's worth the risk to some but it's hard enough to be found on Google as it is. I wouldn't want to ruin my chances. Thoughts?

I'm told that search engines are now smart enough to know if duplicate content is by the same person and does not penalise it. So that's not something I would worry about too much, unless you're using a different name on each platform.

Beehiiv also has multiple payment tier options, and the bonus benefit of not using the money they make from you to fund Nazis.

DEFINITELY CANNIBALISM - Scam to get the 20% fee out of your substack earnings.
