Yep, been there! I didn't like how the post was evolving, so I went back to a much earlier version - it IS possible to dig yourself out of the rabbit hole ;-).
I have several anthologies that I update with new information and links, keeping the same URL. So, I really appreciate the ongoing version control function, beyond the 1st publication of the post!
Do you know I have NEVER clicked that little clock? I use the icon beside it all the time just to check read times on my posts but I've never clicked the clock. Brilliant!
If I feel lazy tomorrow, I may cross-post this to my Unstack newsletter for Saturday. Thanks Karen!
I can just imagine that cold feeling of realisation, and then the panic! Been there, not on Substack, yet, and it was horrible. But all's well that ends well, you learned a thing and you got a new post out of it... thanks for sharing!💕
Superb Substack tip, and beautifully explained. I don't think anyone on Substack explains things better. And your screenshots and visual aids are always superb. Thank you!! 🙏
Sorry to chime in, but I just did a LIVE and unlike all my previous LIVE sessions, this time the LIVE did not show up in my DRAFT tab. Has anyone ever experienced this? It was such a good session and I wanted to post it.
Thanks for this, Karen! Just wondering if others save their Substack posts elsewhere routinely? I know about the Import feature, and used it only once so far lol but occasionally I do worry about losing everything if Substack goes under etc. Any thoughts, wisdom?
Good question, Sue. For my other publication, I copy each post to a word doc, and we use it to make a downloadable e-book for paying subscribers twice a year.
But for this publication I don’t manually save posts, apart from quarterly exports using the Substack export feature. Every post is still sitting in an email folder too, since we all receive our own posts by email. I figure that’s enough.
Nope, no spell check in Substack. But weirdly, I occasionally use Microsoft Edge for a test publication and that highlights spelling mistakes for me. Chrome does not.
I can definitely recommend the free version of Grammarly, which I use as a Chrome extension. It will highlight spelling errors, and you're free to ignore its often inane grammar advice.
Very cool tip. Seems like things are always disappearing for me. Thank you!
Thanks, Karen.

I legitimately did not know this existed until now. Thanks for the heads up.

I know, right?! And go for the lazy summer cross-post, you deserve it!
I never paid attention to that little info icon next to the clock. Now I've just done so. I never knew that data was available. Thanks, Kristi.
Wow, amazing! I haven't had to check THAT out yet, hopefully never, but so so good to know! Thanks Karen!!
Thank you! Very helpful!

oh no, Dr V! I haven’t had this happen and not sure what you could do to fix it 😩Sorry this happened.
I got it back, somehow, I am not sure how. Thanks Karen, I panicked a bit (a lot)! haha
Very helpful. Thanks!

Amazing. Thanks! Is there a spellcheck button I have overlooked?

That's so cool.First I'm so glad you didn't lose your work, Karen.
Second, I usually write in Google Docs then paste into Substack but it's good to know this feature is there in case I ever change how I write.
Saving this for a rainy day when this will def happen to me! Thank you!
Great tip. Glad it helped you out!
Good to know!
