Thanks a ton gor this guide, really means a lot to me!
This guide comes atva time while I am so confused on my entry into substack and if I am doing the right thing by continuing here, and I was also flirting with the idea of just continuing with Medium only..
This is a great explanation for how to analyze your Substack post analytics, and I especially appreciated the emphasis on really nailing the headline/email subject line. What’s tricky is that while (for most of us) most of our initial post views come from email, over time this changes depending on where the post is promoted. What works for email might not work as well in other places, so keep that in mind, and don’t be afraid to change your headline!
Have you found the substack link click stats to be accurate? Mine are wildly inaccurate. For example I'll link to a substack post on another of my publications in my Sunday newsletter. The newsletter says 30 people clicked the link. But on the other substack, the post only had 20 views, and 10 were from subscribers to that substack!
Thanks for the great insights into open rates and traffic sources for posts on Substack. I particular appreciated your point that we don't want 99% from email because that means the post didn't reach new potential subscribers.
Great tips!

No problem, Meera.
It's just one of those things we have to see through.
I'm posting my story as a Note for you.

To get readers to open my emails, I've been sending 3 word hooks as the subject lines.
Then as soon as the post is published I change the subject line to the SEO focused version to rank better on Google search.
Keep in mind, the slug of the URL will still be the original hook.
