Hey hello there, Karen here!

This About page is the default page that Substack gives you when you create a new publication. You should update your About Page when you start a new publication.

The most important section to update is ‘Why Subscribe’, because the default is too generic.

This is a ‘Subscribe with Caption’ button. You need one high up on your About page, for impatient people. (is that you? Subscribe now)

A good About page describes why a newsletter exists, and what a reader can expect from it. It explains a little about who you are and who your intended readers are too. The aim is to have a potential subscriber think “This sounds fun/interesting/helpful, this newsletter is for me”.

It’s also okay to use your About page to disqualify readers who aren’t your ‘tribe’. For example, my other newsletter is for a very specific professional audience and most normal people would not understand it. That’s okay! I deal with this by describing exactly who the newsletter is for so I don’t waste anyone’s time.

The About page you are reading now doesn’t do any of those things yet. It needs work, but I’m too busy working on my Substack e-book for now. Forgive me!

Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website. Never miss an update.
